Language Course The course consisted in an intensive 2 weeks course, of 40 hours (4 hours of lessons per day - form Monday to Friday from 17:00 pm until 20:00 pm). Frontal intensive lessons, with a mother tongue teacher specialised in teaching Italian to foreigners. The Beneficiaries have the opportunity to be introduced to the main grammatical rules, vocabulary, and to the main situations of a common and everyday life conversation, with particular regards to all the necessary vocabulary related to the field where they were going to carry out their internships.

 Cultural Course was organized by Send in cooperation with “Eco Viaggi e cultura” a company specialized in cultural and touristic tour in Palermo and Sicily with a special focus on the tourism and Eco-sustainability. The group had 2 different touristic tours, the first one it was a touristic tour around Palermo and the second one a tour In Monreale, a small village close to Palermo with a significant monuments.

Training  activities The Beneficiaries started the working practice from the day after their arrival. Here are the tasks performed by trainees:

  • Attending office for translations and attending meetings in the area of Zen with young people at risk to implement training paths on environmental education subjects
  • Collecting environmental information and news and writing new articles for the updating of the website section “ARPA Kids”;
  • Writing an environmental education book in English for elementary and lower secondary school students;
  • Co-operation with the graphic designer for the realization of the graphic style of the book.
  •  Census of the most important Sicilian underwater naturalistic / cultural / archaeological areas
  • Collection of information about the naturalistic and archaeological underwater areas of the main Sicilian marine and coastal areas
  • Construction of a Database collecting all the above information and all the dive sites around Sicily
  • Use of ROV, SONDA and Side scan Sonar (SSS), marine sampling devices, including their different applications and a reasonable working knowledge of how they operate
  • Identification of major Mediterranean macro-zoobenthos in the laboratory
  • Carrying out different projects
  • Use of different equipment
  • Integrate experimental design into project framework
  • Ascertain possible new paths for further research
